Sydafrikas nationalpark Kruger har valgt at dræbe ca. 5000 elefanter, da de forstyrrer de lokale beboere. Desværre er beslutningen blevet truffet fordi det viste sig billigere at dræbe elefanterne end at overveje alternative løsninger, såsom at overføre visse dyr til andre parker eller sterilisation/kastration af elefanterne.

“I am dismayed and appalled at the reports that the South African government is intent on culling (i.e.: EXTERMINATING) thousands of elephants in the Kruger National Park, under the guise or a pretext of ‘Conservation’ and ‘Caring for Biodiversity’.

I hereby express my deepest concern about and my objection to this action of the SA Government which I regard as a crime and will do all within my prowess to bring this fact to the attention of concerned people around the World and ask them to act as they deem fit.

Furthermore, if the Government of South Africa carries out its intended killing of the elephants, I will not visit South Africa any time in the foreseeable future and suggest to and put pressure to bear on my friends and colleagues to follow suit. ”
